All the techies I know were glued to their computer screens for the live feed of Apple’s latest announcement of its updated products—and there’s enough cool stuff coming out to keep me busy every day of the week!
As expected, Apple CEO Tim Cook talked about the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, the updated versions of the devices that are currently on the marketplace. A better processing core will improve performance, an enhanced screen will allow for automatic True Tone color adaptation, and a glass back makes wireless charging possible! Barking of which, next year they’ll be coming out with an AirPower Charging Pad that can charge multiple Apple products simultaneously—can’t wait!
The new iPhones’ cameras will be improved, too. Not only will the larger 12-megapixel sensor work faster and capture 83% more light, they will be optimized for augmented reality experiences.
Now the iPhone X…it is going to be crazy. Like, chasing my own tail kind of crazy. It will also feature wireless charging, but the most unique thing is that it doesn’t have a home button! Now that I’m with my hoomans, I am thrilled to have a home, but I’m also pretty pumped about this phone NOT having one. Instead, you’ll wake up the phone by tapping on the screen and get back to the home screen by swiping up from the bottom.
The iPhone X (it’s pronounced “Ten” or as I like to say, “Arf!”) will have a borderless, high-resolution OLED screen (that’s even better than LED!) and facial recognition cameras that are able to neat tricks! With its TrueDepth camera, you can use the new Face ID facial recognition technology to do things like unlock the phone or make purchases with Apple Pay, which is great because that Thumbprint thing never worked for me anyway…
The coolest part of this new camera are animojis you can use in iMessages—they look like emojis, but Face ID technology animates them based on your facial movements and speech! For now, there are about a dozen different characters for use with this feature—I hope they have the dog one!
The Apple Watch got a big boost, too, with the highly-demanded cellular connectivity. What’s that mean? It means you don’t have to have your phone nearby in order to use the watch, which was a big bone of contention among some users.
Apple also upgraded its video-streaming media device to now support 4K and HDR. The Apple TV 4K‘s super high resolution screen radically boosts contrast and colors on screen. Apple says it will offer 4K movies on iTunes for the same price as HD ones, and any HD movies you already have can be automatically upgraded to 4K. Additionally, they are working with providers like Netflix to offer their 4K video content on the new Apple device.
So up to this point, all of the above will cost you some dough. But the newest operating system updates are completely FREE and just as awesome. The iOS 11 will streamline and speed up iPhones and iPads, which is to be expected, but it will also include support for enhanced augmented reality apps, a new and improved Siri with a more natural sounding voice (I wonder if she will woof?), and an optional “do not disturb” function that can auto-reply to texts while you’re driving.
You’ll want to check with your local tech provider or Apple Store for the cost and date of availability for all of the above products. I, for one, can’t wait to have everything! How about you?
Bye for now,
Your pawsitively pawesome pal Cache
